If you are here we wish to warn you in advance

[This Site May Be Hazardous To Closed Minds]

The Absolute first and most important thing you need to know and share about PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Is that it is not about something that is wrong with someone it is about something that happened to someone. And it is the opposite to being a sign of weakness.

First Response to trauma recovery is knowledge, become warriors of knowledge with an open mind and a world of healing and opportunity will open up to you or your loved one becoming stronger wiser and happier than you ever imagined possible.

Trauma warriors must empower themselves, this is their life and they know what works best for them. Seek out knowledge, however just as you should never feel bullied into silence by ignorance you should never be bullied into any treatment or therapy that does not feel right for you. What works for one does not necessarily work for another The healing process is as unique to an individual as the traumatic experience that caused it.

There are an enormous number of treatments and therapies available as well as ongoing research being done. Though in years past Ptsd was not really addressed whatsoever. In what might be called a revolution of rising expectations, sufficient numbers of survivors and their loved ones are refusing to accept a life sentence of silence and suffering.

If you have been told you are mentally ill or have a "disease" or are destined to live forever stuck You have been Lied to. Ptsd is an Injury that does heal.

It is incredibly important to know that you are not alone and Ptsd does not discriminate in any way. It is not just a soldier ,rape survivor or child abuse thing and many other known causes are listed with more information on the bottom portion of our website. It is not a social or political opinion it is absolutely real for many.

Denial is the path to nowhere but further suffering and cycling of trauma. Acceptance is the path to new experiences and healing. Ptsd is the name given to identify a very normal response to a markedly abnormal life experience that was severe enough to cause visible observable physical brain changes specifically identified structures of the brain being the amygdala hippocampus and medial pre frontal cortex.

Though traumatic experiences are different and unique to the individual, the response to them is very much universal.

Most all cases in fact are related to human rights violations and trauma survivors should always revisit education in respect to what human rights are Please see our human rights links for more information.

These experiences impact a persons mind body and soul,no you will not ever be who you were yesterday nor will you be who you are today again this goes for all people. Life has changed traumatically but your future self has everything it takes to conquer it.

Wounded Healers

To understand Ptsd better it is important to understand the brain anatomy injured and its function in respect to overall effect.

Thalamus - decides where to send incoming sensory data (from eyes, ears, mouth, skin)
Sensory cortex - interprets sensory data
Hippocampus - stores and retrieves conscious memories; processes sets of stimuli to establish context
Amygdala - decodes emotions; determines possible threat; stores fear memories
Hypothalamus - activates "fight or flight" response
The process of creating fear begins with a scary stimulus and ends with the fight-or-flight response.
STUCK <- When Fight and Flight is not an option

STUCK and PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and a dysregulated nervous system.
When an animal is confronted with a novel or life-threatening situation in the wild, it responds naturally by fighting, fleeing or freezing.
If the animal survives, it discharges excess energy from its nervous system through shaking, trembling and twitching. This discharge leaves the animal ready to fully respond to any subsequent threat. Animals may move through this sequence several times in a day without experiencing any negative effects or exhibiting symptoms of trauma.

If there were more open awareness, there would more understanding, more help, less ridicule, and less people and families who suffer. Family members are a victim of PTSD too in many difficult ways of love, confusion, hurt, helplessness. Many of the same feelings as your loved one truly suffering. Spread awareness. Visit the VA and you will have a whole new outlook on people and what is NOT being done. It's sad.

Much needed political perspective. The deliberate overlooking of PTSD/TBI by the medical community, and the over-reliance on dangerous 'medication' that simply compounds the situation, is, in my opinion, a criminal act. Time to heal, time to reach out to each other, time to take back our lives.

Ripples on a pond begin by making the first splash. The rest will come. I support those that offer support in return. Personal experiences can be heard as well as utilized as a motivational tool to others. I offer my shoulder as a symbol of embracing strength as well as my ear to hear the cries of help as my mouth speaks words of encouragement and a bullhorn effect my personal cries for help. I feel this organization is here for reunion of strangers in search of healing. My heart and prayers go out to all in need. Thank you

Humanity , this organization proves indeed that humanity does still exist , & it's alive & kicking channelled through the tireless efforts of the volunteers of this crucially vital service .
Push pride aside , except help , then your individual path to recovery can start ...

Ones mind can either be the most astonishing phenomenal enlightening gift you posses , or unfortunately that same Gift if not channelled correctly after physical / mental traumatic experience's can be the most destructive power one posses ..
Help is here , do not suffer in silence , lay those demon's to rest , or a least be able to deal with them so normality can return to you ...

The majority of Sufferers of ptsd unfortunately turn to Alcohol , drug's etc, then take what they perceive as there only route , subconscious self destruction ....
I promise you all there is another route another path , all you have to do is accept help , it's not weak to admit that something within you needs assistance , it is raw strength & power ..

Apart from our well-developed neo-cortex or “thinking brain,” our innate responses to threat are identical to animals in the wild.

However in our modern world, we are not always able to respond in the natural way that our nervous system was designed.

You may remember feeling cold and trembly after a traumatic event. You may have been encouraged to stifle your feelings, not speak of them, suck it up, told to pull yourself together and get over it, or felt embarrassed about your response.

These suggestions in fact are not only cruel they very often when implemented cause a great deal of further re-traumatization and literally not only do they put the healing process on hold but they increase the impact of the injury and duration of time it will take to heal.

Stigmatizing - Know that those who do this do so based on lack of education, ignorance and social programming, if you hold onto the toxic words and actions of others it will delay your healing process dramatically.

Victim blaming and stigmatizing those who do not fit into what society has stamped as " Normal"
Has become almost somewhat of a sport, as those who do it seem to team up like pack animals these people are often the ones closest to the survivor. This form of bullying can be re-traumating in itself. Ignorance isn't bliss, you must not let others poison you. If you do you will therefore be revolving your health and happiness around people who do not care to so much as to understand you at all. This is harmful to your health and the wellbeing of the loved ones around you.

True colours of others shine bright in life when you experience trauma, but always keep in mind the only difference between an outstretched palm and a helping hand is the twist of a wrist.

When you rise in life your friends and family know who you are and when you fall you know who your friends and family are. Consider this a blessing in disguise. You are on a path of true awareness and from pain you can find out what greatness is in you. Adversity does make us stronger.

So back to trauma response; nevertheless and regardless of many factors, your “animal brain” responded as if it was a life-threatening situation, and a great deal of energy was mounted in your nervous system to protect yourself.
It is likely that you were unable to fight or flee and instead you froze ( became STUCK) . Following this trauma, you may have had trouble sleeping, were nervous particularly when reminded of the event or if in situations that were relative to the event that triggered a memory, had intrusive thoughts about your vulnerability, startled easily, had pain and felt generally anxious or depressed along with other symptoms of avoidance, hyperarousal and re-experiencing . These are signs of dysregulation in the nervous system and soul body disconnect.

Extreme traumatic experiences are truly life altering, a disconnect of mind body and soul, therefore the healing process is not just a mere physical one. Trauma survivors often feel numbing and human disconnect and will do anything to feel alive. To think that their is nothing more to us as human beings than what can be seen is what true insanity is.

Ptsd is considered “The Invisible wound because it impacts us in a much more profound way than merely a physical injury.

Ptsd survivors question many things about themselves and the world around them this is not a religious debate but a spiritual reality. Many describe a feeling of total loss of power and a sense of dissociation. Considering the possibility that our bodies are mere learning vessels and life is an education, body being pain the soul being peace. It would make sense that STUCK in between would be an incredibly unnatural place to be.

Reconnecting is so very important and there are many paths to this destiny. Just as in life when you hit a road block It means it is time to blaze your own trail. You have what it takes to be and feel whole again. Retrieve lost power and gain knowledge that the world needs or you would not have survived.

All trauma warriors must know they were given this life for a reason and they are strong enough to live and express it.

Stuck between fight and flight is not where anyone needs to be, and everything you need to heal is on the other side of fear. A life where you can live like you were flying knowing the true meaning of freedom and peace and the value it holds.

In many healing arts it is believed the human soul is free to leave the body. The soul is the centre of many healing arts. Examples such as, Shamans and spiritual healers, they are believed to change their state of consciousness allowing their free soul to travel and retrieve ancient wisdom and lost power.

Because a portion of the soul is free to leave the body it will do so when dreaming, or it will leave the body to protect itself from potentially damaging situations be they emotional or physical. In situations of trauma the soul piece may not return to the body on its own, and a Shaman for example must intervene and return the soul essence. We believe the wounded healer can do the same.

Horses dogs and other animals have been used from the beginning of time to assist humans in their travels and healing, bringing about a deeper connection with our world. They show us that everything is connected and alive with spirit. Bridging the visible and Invisible worlds. They teach us how to live peacefully and in harmony with nature and all beings.

With healing of mind body and soul comes a true spiritual awakening. Always keep in mind this is your journey and healing takes time as the quote says and as is true to life and traumatic experiences.

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time. ~ Deborah Chaskin

Not all wounds are visible until you shine light on them and once you do they can can be seen felt and heal. - Erin Paterson

PTSD is a normal human reaction to a markedly abnormal life event
